Dr. Maurice Charles Hack (1935 – 2010) was honored in a memorial service at Fresh and Green Academy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Monday, June 21, 2010. Dr. Hack was the father of Friends of Fresh and Green president and co-Founder Trish Hack-Rubinstein, husband of volunteer Barbara Hack and father-in-law of FFG secretary Gregg Rubinstein.
The service was attended by school administrator, Muday Mitiku and the mothers in the Cooperative. Three different faiths were represented: Coptic Christian, Moslem and Bahai’i. Muday and the mothers offered prayers of strength for the family and friends of Dr. Hack.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Viator Catholic Church in Henderson, Nevada on Tuesday, June 22. Immediately afterwards will be a celebration of Dr. Hack’s life. He is remembered as a loving father and husband, a dedicated and caring dentist, an avid golfer and an ardent supporter of Friends of Fresh and Green.

Alamsai works at the Mother’s Cooperative and Titthena is a first grader with a beautiful spirit and a smile that is both shy and frequent. Titthena and Workay’s daughter Bazawit are best friends, and so the friendship developed between their mothers.
When Workay became too ill to work, Alamsai took over the task of feeding her. In the Mother’s Cooperative, they are true sisters and one more example of the miracle that is Fresh and Green.
There were eleven of us that day: six volunteers, Muday, Workay and Bazawit, and Workay’s friend Alamsai, and her daughter Titthena. Alamsai has been keeping Workay alive, bringing food every day – an almost unimaginable sacrifice in a city where food is so scarce. Such is the sisterhood that exists between the mothers in the cooperative.
