Running for Ethiopia
On September 17 and 18, 2010, “The Proud Bird Runners”, twenty-four very ambitious pilots and flight attendants, set out on a 200-mile, 24-hour race for the children of Fresh and Green Academy. The weather ranged from chilly and wet at the start on Friday morning in Franconia, NH, to warm and sunny at the finish on Saturday evening on the beach at Hampton Beach, NH. Each team member ran three legs with the totals ranging from 11-22 miles. All of the runners had very little sleep and pushed their bodies to the limit, but the energy was always positive. The runner who brought the team in was in pain due to cramping at mile 5 of the 15-mile total but used the strength of the children and mothers in Ethiopia to pull her through. Now well-rested and healed, the runners will start their training for the next race in May 2011, one that will take them through “Wine Country” to San Francisco.
The “Proud Bird Runners” have raised over $2,000 for the school since they formed last year. If you would like to support their efforts on behalf of the children, please use the donation button below.
